In addition to his Of Counsel duties with the Lipton Law Office, Dan Balough (Major General, (US Army, Retired) is President of DCBC, LLC., a service-disabled veteran owned small business which provides emerging companies with strategic advice in the federal defense sector as well as transactional legal advice. He is currently a Senior Advisor for Government Affairs with Delphi Technology Corp. an AI training startup. Prior to this, he advised three other tech startups Vidder, XQ Message and The Modern Data Company. Dan spent 35 years in the Army and Army Reserve. He is a decorated Vietnam combat infantryman, a Ranger and Master Parachutist. Dan’s military career culminated as the Commanding General of the 91st “Wild West” Division. His civilian career spans 50+ years and includes time as a lawyer in private practice (including the Lipton Firm), over a dozen years as staff attorney at Chevron and fifteen years with an IT defense contractor as General Counsel, COO and Chief Compliance Officer (CCO). He also had a stint as a visiting lecturer at UC Law San Francisco School of Law in the Oil and Gas Seminar. Dan is a graduate of the US Military Academy at West Point with a BS in Engineering. He also has an MBA from the UC Berkeley, Haas School of Business and a JD/Law degree from UC Law San Francisco.

Audrey is an attorney whose broad-based legal experience provides unique benefits to our clients. She began her legal career working for Ace Lipton and is honored to be working with him again. 

For 15 years Ms. Smith worked in law firms which focused on complex litigation and trial work. She worked as an associate at Brayton & Associates and then at the Cartwright Law Firm. She then became a partner/shareholder at Wartnick  Chaber Harowitz Smith & Tigerman, representing plaintiffs in complex litigation personal injury cases. Ms. Smith tried 30 complex litigation jury trials to verdict as lead counsel for plaintiffs.  She also tried numerous civil and criminal court trials and arbitrations.  

At present Ms. Smith is Of Counsel to the Lipton Law Offices. She also works as a certified mediator and serves as a neutral arbitrator.

Jennifer graduated New College of the Law in 2007,  she began work with the San Francisco Public Defender office as a trial attorney where she was lead attorney for 18 jury trials, mostly acquittals, she is a graduate from Gerry Spence Trial Lawyers College and it's psycho-drama program in Wyoming, She has been  adjunct faculty for the Trial Skills Clinic at Boalt Hall School of Law, U.C Berkeley, to add to her accomplishments, Jen is fluent in Spanish.

Patrick is a 1990 graduate of New College of The Law, he worked briefly at the Cartwright office before joining the Lipton Law Office as an associate. He became a partner at Lipton and Than in 1995. In 1998 he moved to Myanmar (formerly Burma) to pursue family interests. He returned to his home town Salinas, CA in 2001, and since that time has remained a solo practitioner of the law. He is an excellent golfer.
